The Programmable Robotic Shapes Processing System (PROSHAPS) was demonstrated at Bath Iron Works Corporation in November 1988 by the Naval Sea Systems Command. It was designed and developed to provide increased efficiency, reliability and flexibility in structural shapes manufacturing. To achieve these objectives, PROSHAPS integrates computer systems, material handling equipment, robotics, and adaptive controls for automatic marking and plasma arc cutting of both steel and aluminum piece parts.
